A monthly Linguistic Improvisation class for Rohingya refugee women is underway

A monthly Linguistic Improvisation class for Rohingya refugee women is underway as part of the “WAGAR – Women and Girls at Risk” project. This initiative, led by RRW (Rohingya Resilient Women) and supported by UNSW, Tenaganita, MSRI, Asylum Access Malaysia, and UNHCR, focuses on linguistic enhancement and empowerment for Rohingya women and girls. The skill build up class address the language barriers these women encounter in various aspects of their daily lives, spanning interactions from renting a house to seeking medical assistance, getting transportation, and purchasing groceries.

The classes are designed to impart linguistic skills in two essential languages, enabling refugee women to navigate their social environment more effectively. By equipping them with language proficiency, the workshops aim to empower Rohingya women, fostering greater independence and self-confidence. This linguistic improvement is vital for overcoming hurdles in accessing essential services and participating more actively in their communities.

These classes help women face the language barrier they often encounter by improving their skills. The class focuses on improvising their language abilities, especially in Bahasa Melayu and English. Through this program, Rohingya Women learn new words, phrases, and how to communicate effectively. By enhancing their language skills, these women can better interact with others, access opportunities, and feel more confident in their daily lives. RRW’s efforts are empowering Rohingya women to overcome these challenges and thrive in their new environment.
